Activated charcoal

Activated charcoal is porous substance of dark color produced from charcoal, coal coke, petroleum, nut shells or other biological material containing carbon

Activated coal consists of three layers of carbon atoms. Layers are shifted and placed chaotically. There are pores between them. Filtered out materials stay on its walls. Depending on size there are micropores, mesopores and macropores. The less the size of particles, the faster material is absorbed. In industry coal is applied to clean various compounds. In household coal is used to filter water and air.

During activated coal production material is charred, and then activated. Hence the name. The point is to open pores which were closed. There are two methods of activation: thermochemical and with the help of processing with carbon dioxide or overheated steam under high temperatures.

Thanks to such a characteristic as absorption coal is actively used in medicine and in filter production.

People are facing charcoal application sometimes not knowing about it.

Activated charcoal is safe for health. Raw materials and production technologies are available, and demand is growing thanks to useful properties and broad scope of application
