Charcoal as fertilizer
Charcoal is produced from organic waste, which transform into peat with time and temperature, and then transform into brown and hard coal. The final stage is anthracite. Coal is used for heating and in industry. It is worth paying particular attention on charcoal. Scope of application for this ecologically clean fuel is greatly broader. Charcoal is used for household needs, medicine, food and even agricultural industry
All this is possible thanks to unique properties of charcoal.
- It is totally safe for human and animals.
- It has porous structure and can be used as a filter.
- It can absorb excess moisture and applied fertilizer. There is no risk of root system rotting.
- It moistens ground when irrigation is lacking. Gives water to plants during drought.
- Charcoal does not rot, so it retains its qualities for a long time.
- Fertilizer can be applied for several years in a row .
- It allows to reduce amount of applied additional fertilizing, because it can hold nutrients in the upper layers of the soil, meanwhile root system absorbs needed elements prolonged
- When using charcoal, it is acceptable to make mistake in dosage of fertilizer. Plants will consume only amount of nutrients they can absorb.
- It stimulates microorganisms growth.
- It saturates soil with oxygen and serves as loosener. Soil stays loosen without lumps
- Shallow application of charcoal blocks growth of weeds and complicates movement of snails and slugs, oppress developments of some pests.
- Charcoal is compact, transportable and available to gardeners and landowners.
- It matches almost all types of soil, except for alkaline. Can deoxidize soil.
- During cuttings it is added to water to prevent the growth of putrefactive bacteria. Charcoal is also used to process fresh slices
The composition of charcoal depends on the raw material. Besides high carbon containment, there are components as potassium, calcium, phosphorus and boron. So charcoal is an additional source of substances for growth and development of plants
Charcoal is not only valuable fertilizer, but also soil improver, loosener, antiseptic, and good drainage. It is used for many types of garden crops (except ones that prefer sour soil), and also in floriculture. Charcoal proved itself a long time ago. It is not only safe and convenient in use, but also allows to get an excellent harvest.

Maximized results are achieved by applying organic fertilizers (rotted manure, compost) or mineral compound with mandatory addition of charcoal. Such a comprehensive approach has a positive effect on harvest. Charcoal is ecologically safe, so is irreplaceable for eco-agriculture. Regardless of farming method useful properties of coal as fertilizer are time-proven.
